Machine Head releases new album
As you all know, when I was younger I was completely into the band Bush. I was very familiar with the song Machine Head, thusly I always seemed to notice a band called the same name as this song (which coincidentally we found out the band came first.) I was discussing this with my counterpart and being as we had never discussed this band I was surprised to hear that he was quite familiar with them. Machine Head for me have been one of those bands you see and hear about but never get around to listening to.
Either way, I received a message from the Machine Head street team letting me know that their new album came out on Tuesday and asking if I would write a little something about it. You know me, if I like it, it gets a plug (i.e. Serpico, Madina Lake) So I took a listen and seriously folks, it's some good shit. I should have taken a listen years ago.
Some brief history about the band:
They formed in Oakland, California in 1992. Released their first album, Burn My Eyes, in 1994 on an $800 budget. Band members include, Robb Flynn, Phill Demme, Dave McClain and Adam Duce. They've toured with some of the biggest names in metal including Slayer and Pantera and despite their "nu-metal" label (which we all know some people like to balk at) they have beat the odds and released an album that is getting really great press.
So check it out, give it a listen and let them know what you think. Do you ever notice how when something random is brought to your attention you notice it more frequently? Makes you wonder if you're noticing it because people are actually talking about it more or because it's moved into your conscious thought. hmm...and with that, here are a few stories I found today about Machine Head and their new album, "The Blackening." Could it be? I think my heart just skipped a beat.
Could it be that MCR and HIM will be touring together this fall? From what I have found, while it has not been officially announced, HIM and MCR are allegedly going to be in cahoots on Linkin Park's Projekt Revolution tour. This is a match made in Shame-free heaven. Pinch me because I must be dreaming.

Woman in metal
I just kept coming across all these random 'women' posts so let's see if we can put this puzzle together.
Revolver magazine is releasing an issue with the "Hottest Chicks in Metal" much to the delight of many metal dudes. They debate whether or not this is sexy or sexist. I think it's sexy until you start getting that sweaty, no-talent, skeezy, long-haired old metal dude in the crowd who yells "show us your t**s" Ew. If you're "that guy", stop.
Onwards, the comments tagged with this are pretty funny speaking of dumb, sweaty, old metal dudes. Oooh burn!
Reality Check TV is releasing a DVD called "Real Rock Divas" featuring the likes of Kittie, Lacuna Coil, Lita Ford, L7, etc. etc. etc. which I assume will feature them before they were famous or something. A few things...1.) Who gives a shit about Lita Ford. 2.) L7 hasn't been around for a million years and are only famous because of the whole tampon incident and 3.) Why are people still using the term "diva?" Not only is it so 1996 I can't stand it, I don't even think there really are divas anymore with the acception of maybe Aretha Franklin and Elton John. I know, it's an old joke but it never stops working. ZING!
Finally, are we really getting so desperate for television shows that we have to create one and name it "America's Hot Musician." Did a five-year-old think of this title? At least that stupid Grease show is called, "The One What I Want." Slightly clever, double meaning - I can deal with it. The judges are even more random, a National Symphony Violinist, a trombonist and....are you ready....former Kittie basist Talena Atfield. Huh?
A wee bit o' My Chem news

Awe...it's a girl!
"A Swedish court has ruled that the parents of a seven-month-old girl in Kungälv, Sweden can name their child Metallica, according to the Swedish newspaper GP. The girl's parents wanted to give their daughter a name that combined their first names. After picking Metallica and checking twice with the Swedish tax agency Skatteverket if the name was acceptable, they were told that it shouldn't be a problem since there is already a girl in Sweden called Metallica. When they filed Metallica as one of the girl's three first names, the Skatteverket suddenly objected, claiming that the name was inappropriate because a famous hard rock band bears that name and the fact that it's too close to the word "metal." The parents filed an appeal with the district court, which has now ruled that the use of the name won't pose any problems for either the girl or anyone that she comes in contact with. One member of the jury objected to the ruling, claiming that the name probably will cause discomfort to the person who bears it."
This is hilarious. First, who would name a kid Metallica and second, how can a jury rule that it's not legal because they think it's unfair? hahaha Silly Swedish court system.
*Thanks to Carrie for bringing this to my attention.

John 5 writes with The Scorpions
John 5, guitarist for Rob Zombie has a new album coming out and he has recently been working with Lynyrd Skynyrd and The Scorpions.
I have a funny story about The Scorpions. When I was in college I was friends with 4 Ukranian exchange students who were there on a music scholarship and had once played several shows with The Scorpions. Sergei, one of the viola players, looked like He-Man, wore tiny shorts in public and learned the hard way that taking a "flaming" shot of vodka isn't the wisest idea. Oh college...

MCR Glendale, AZ review. And I quote, "My Chemical Romance's members wore all black for the encore, and Mikey Way returned to wearing old-school, black-framed glasses. (Mikey Way, who reportedly has had Lasik surgery correct his vision, was the subject of many a female's screams.)"

Speaking of KISS, Ms. Samina (who is wonderful by the way) sent me this link for an interview that is actually pretty entertaining. He's still a pompous ass but at least he has a sense of humor about it.

Some people don't get their medicine regularly
Ok, so...I know Van Halen have some personal issues but damn it's the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame! They should stop be whiney little bitches. Word.
Kelis, of 'Milkshake' fame, was arrested for attacking two undercover police officers dresses as hookers after she verbally assaulted them with a tirade of racist comments. What is wrong with people?
I know I give Jared Leto a rash of shit but I try to only pick on him when it's warranted. The people at Blender and the kids at Taste of Chaos in El Paso weren't following this trend. Blender says that Jared is acting like "an asshole" in this video. I beg to differ. I actually, I think he's being more pleasant than usual.
Jared dove into the crowd during 30STM's set at Taste of Chaos and came out with a broken nose, some kind of foot injury and "superficial injuries" to his body and face. To add insult to injury, Matt Wachter, bassist of the band left the group that same day. When it rains it pours, eh?Link
