New Serpicio album sampler

Scottish metal band Serpico have a downloadable sampler available on their MySpace for their upcoming album. We love Serpico and you should too. They've toured with Stone Gods and Kill Hannah and are amassing a legion of fans as shown by their rapidly growing friend list on MySpace. As I have said before (and by before I mean repeatedly) check them out. If you're a 1-song try kind of person, I recommend Kultura. It rocks my face off.

Katy Perry: Instant Star

About two weeks ago I posted the video for "I Kissed A Girl" by Katy Perry and figured I was late on the draw but apparently I was right on. The song is number 1 on Billboard charts - which doesn't really mean anything other than that 15 year old girls with mom and dad's cash bought the album (oooh harsh) - but it's an accomplishment just the same. I also found out that she's dating Travis McCoy from Gym Class Heroes and is also featured in the "Cupid's Chokehold" video (you're all like, "No shit Sherlock", aren't you?) ANYWAY, she's been involed in drama between Lily Allen and Perez Hilton but is trying to stay out of it (good call Katy) and all before the majority of people know who she is.

Between playing Warped tour, some Spike awards show and the album really only having two goods songs on it (not nice, but true) within the last month, I feel a one-hit wonder coming on but let's hope for the best and maybe on the next album she'll focus on the songs that set her apart instead of the songs make her sound like everyone else.

innerpartysystem - electronic music for people who like to think

So....I was recommended innerpartysystem by a reader a few months ago and only bought the extended single yesterday (what? I've been busy) anyway, it rules. It's pretty far removed from stuff we usually write about but for some reason it clicks.

They recently released a limited edition 7" of their upcoming single "Don't Stop" which is not only made out of chocolate but it actually plays (as long as it doesn't get all melty and f- up the grooves.

Anyway, they're touring with Kill Hannah this summer and I'm so there. Dates and video for "Don't Stop" posted below.

I heard of Katy Perry when her song "UR So Gay" came out but didn't listen to it, but, I should have, it's pretty funny. Anyway, I listened to her song "I Kissed A Girl" because I wanted to see if it was like the Jill Sobule song of the same title from 100 years ago - but it wasn't. The video is posted below and I think it rocks. The rest of her stuff is a little Lily Allen, but this song and video is pretty rad.

New Alanis and Gavin Rossdale

I love them both and I make no bones about it. Mwah! If you notice they're both really introspective videos. Alanis's video for Underneath focuses more on the two parts of someone battling one another but ultimately trying to reach the same end by different means. Pay special attention to what the things on the wall say towards the end - genius even if it is a little cheesy. The video for Love Remains the Same is interesting because I think it's showing all the things that he is as opposed to all the things people think he is, i.e. soccer player, chef, singer vs. sex symbol, washed up rock star, Mr. Stefani. I'll also add that there is a shower scene. I would like to think it's to represent him cleaning his "former image" however, I'll take it for its more obvious advantages. ;)

After their infamously ignorant article about the effects of 'emo' and how it caused a teenaged girls death The Daily Mail just can't shut up already. Here are their latest comments most of which are total bullshit:

"The Daily Mail’s coverage of the 'Emo' movement has been balanced, restrained and above all, in the public interest. Genuine concerns were raised at the inquest earlier this month on 13 year old emo follower Hannah Bond who had been self-harming and then tragically killed herself," they explained in the statement."In common with other newspapers we ran an accurate news story recording the Coroner's remarks and the parents' comments. We also published two other articles, one of which explained the background to the Hannah tragedy in calm and un-sensational language."

They are complete idiots. They're so stupid, I don't know if I can keep wasting my time discussing why they're wrong. Anyway, the BBC has gotten in on the action and written their own article about it ---> here. Some people dares to say it wasn't as bad as the Daily Mail one but who are they kidding? They show a picture of Mikey Way in a mugshot as their top image, someone who most parents wouldn't recignize in a million years, thusly making it looks like emo's get arrested frequently. As you scroll towards the bottom they show "emo looks." They show a 'scene' girl, My Chemical Romance in what looks like what most anyone would wear and some tennis shoes. Great reporting guys. You really hit the nail on the head.

The Daily Mail also mentioned something about how this publicity is great for the release of My Chems upcoming album. Doesn't that not come out until like, 2009? Total abominations to journalism. Shame on all of them.
